During America’s Great Depression of the 1930's, Iowa’s farmers tried to be as frugal and resourceful as they could. They regularly made use of everything.
One common practice was to make underwear out of old cotton flour sacks or feed sacks. Of course the brand logos remained on the newly created undergarments. There were many widely circulated jokes during the era about this practice.

Another great-granddaughter for Roxy Roster of Vinton
Cassandra Marie Daringer, 8 lbs.., 3 oz., was born Tuesday, December 7, 2010 7:40 p.m. in Evanston, Illinois.
She joins her parents, Neal and Nichole Daringer, along with siblings, David, Cody, and Abigail.
Cassandra is the granddaughter of Renea Roster of Waterloo, Iowa and the great-granddaughter of Roxy Roster of Vinton, Iowa.

105th birthday for Cleo Burgess held at Legion Hall
Cleo (Culver) Burgess has lived in this area all her life. Her father E E Culver had a store in Urbana in 1900. Her grandson Danny Burgess and his wife and children threw her a birthday party on Nov 21 at the Legion Hall in Vinton. She is now 105 years old.
Until three years ago, Cleo lived at home alone and took care of herself, with frequent visits from her family. Locks of Love: Hendryx donates hair in memory of her brother
